The Legendary Work of Max Martin

You might not know Max Martin’s name, but I can guarantee that you’ve heard the countless pop hits that he’s written and produced. Between Ariana Grande, Britney Spears and Katy Perry, this Swedish songwriter and producer has worked with practically every pop star under the sun. Not to mention that he has also crafted 23 Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping hits (and counting), been nominated for 22 Grammy Awards and won Songwriter of the Year at the ASCAP Pop Music Awards 10 times! We thought that it would only be fair to showcase some of his best work and share our favourites with you.

Ariana Grande

Most of the people reading this article right now probably know Max Martin for the music that he has worked on with the reigning queen of pop, Ariana Grande. Martin first worked with Grande on her sophomore album, My Everything. He co-wrote most of the album’s singles, including “Problem” and the Jessie J and Nicki Minaj collaboration “Bang Bang.” Most recently, he wrote and produced several songs on Grande’s albums Sweetener and thank u, next, including “no tears left to cry,” “bad idea” and the pop banger “God is a woman.” Everything they do together is pop perfection and we can’t wait to see what they do next.

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry were two of the biggest names in pop music circa 2014 and the biggest names deserve the best producers. Not only did Martin co-write Perry’s debut single “I Kissed a Girl," but he also was behind “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” “E.T” and “Part of Me,” which all topped the Billboard Hot 100. He also worked on a few songs for Prism and Witness and hopefully co-wrote a song or two on Perry’s upcoming album Smile.

Martin and Swift first worked together on Swift’s hit song “We Are Never Getting Back Together,” a single off her album Red. He also played a big role in Swift’s transition into pop music, as he co-wrote and produced many songs on 1989, including the chart-topping singles “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space” and “Bad Blood.” Most recently, he worked with Swift on her 2017 album reputation but surprisingly did not have any writing or producing credits on her most recent album Lover. Hopefully, they can get back in the studio together and create some hits for Swift’s next project.

Britney Spears and NSYNC

How could we talk about Max Martin without mentioning Britney Spears and NSYNC? Martin was behind some of these artists’ most iconic songs, including Spears’ debut single “...Baby One More Time.” He continued to work with Spears throughout her career on songs like “I Wanna Go” on Femme Fatale and “If U Seek Amy” on Circus. Martin also produced and co-wrote quite a few NSYNC songs, including “Tearin’ Up My Heart,” “It’s Gonna Be Me” and “I Want You Back.” Who knows, maybe Martin wouldn’t have been able to work with today's pop stars if we hadn't worked with Spears and NSYNC!

In conclusion, Max Martin has worked with so many iconic artists that we weren’t even able to list them all! From The Weeknd to Justin Bieber to Selena Gomez, Martin’s resumé is endless and evergrowing.
